Veterinarian Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM
Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM was born and raised on Long Island, NY where she was an avid equestrian for greater portion of her life. She competed in the “A” circuit up and down the east coast where she was awarded the “Cacchione Cup”, a prestige given to the best intercollegiate rider throughout United States. She recieved this honor as freshman and eventually transitioned to a respected judge and steward. Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM retired from the horse circuit about 10 years ago to concentrate on raising her family and running a small animal veterinary practice.
Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM attended University of Florida, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree. She considered this her dream school and will always be ‘Gator’ at heart. While attending U of F, she was President of Pre-Vet Club. Post Gainesville, she went on to complete her Master’s Degree at Long Island University, where she was awarded a complete scholarship and stipend due to her outstanding academic and professional accolades. Upon earning her master’s degree, she studied as an exchange student in Perugia, Italy for one year as well as in Dominica, West Indies, respectively. She graduated from Tuskegee University (Alabama) with her DVM Degree in 1988. During her attendance at Tuskegee, she was awarded the AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) Merit Award. This award, selected by her teachers, is presented to one outstanding student in Medicine and Surgery.
After graduation, Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM practiced veterinarian medicine in Palm Beach County for 2 years. Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM then moved to New Jersey, where she started her own practice as a mobile veterinarian practice based out Freehold ,NJ. Ten years later, while continuing her mobile veterinarian practice, she decided to branch out and opened a stationary veterinary hospital. She designed and built this hospital from ground up, installing state-of-art equipement and diagnostics with a staff of three full time veterinarians working for her. Located in Toms River, NJ, Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM named her hospital “Animal Hospital of North Dover“. Her hospital was awarded the Veterinary Economics Merit Award for Outstanding Small Animal Hospital in 2002. In 2004, she received prestigious recognition, being named “Business woman of Year” for the success of her two veterinary practices. This award presented by George Bush in Washington, DC, was given to one woman in state of NJ that year. Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM was also nominated to be on Physicians Advisory Committee and, in 2005, President Bush awarded her again with the “Ronald Reagan Gold Medal Award” in recognition of for her work on that committee for years. She sold both of her practices in New Jersey and in 2006 moved back to Palm Beach in order to relocate back to Florida to be closer to her family in Wellington FL area. She is married with 4 children and 3 grandchildren.
Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM has kept quite busy over the years running her small animal practice here in Wellington FL will remaining extremely active with Palm Beach Veterinary Society. She is a past President of the Palm Beach Veterinary Medical Society for which she held that term for 2 terms (4 years). During her presidency, 150 members of her peers, awarded her with plague for exemplary and dedicated service for her work with Palm Beach Veterinary Society. Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM has developed a strong bond with the community of Wellington FL. She can be seen all around the horse shows working with many rescue groups and also active on committee’s that raise funds for welfare of either animals or people. Her hobbies now include golf, and anything that involves her family and animals.
Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM knew at an early age that she wanted to become a veterinarian. She has had many pets throughout her life, including a number of show dogs. She does not have a particular favorite breed of dog or cat, loving them all equally. She also could not imagine herself having any other career because she loves what she does. Dr. Jean M. Oberg MS, DVM is very excited about becoming a mobile veterinarian again, considering a mobile veterinarian service of great benefit to her clients and their pets. She finds this be an extremely rewarding field. Seeing patients in comfort of their own home is and has always been her favorite type of veterinary appointments. Having provided mobile house calls for dogs and cats in past, she knows the value of this service. And she’s happy to be getting back to her ‘mobile veterinarian’ roots. With her 30 years of veterinary medical experience as DVM, and the additional 15 years she served as a technician, she brings roughly 45 years of experience in the animal healthcare field. She has gained a wealth of knowledge over the years, but continues to grow and learn new techniques. She comes to you with extensive collegiate degrees and continues to educate herself by going to meetings and continuing to educate herself by participating at national level meetings and conferences in veterinary medicine. As a practice she personally believes it is extremely important to stay current and offer the latest of veterinary care for your pets. She looks forward to meeting you and your pet.
